OUR
PLATFORM
Donald Trump’s administration has launched an unprecedented attack on workers, immigrants, public research, and higher education. It’s now more important than ever that our union is focused on building mass-participatory worker power to protect and expand our rights while fighting back against the rising right-wing. Union MADE is committed invigorating our local union, the UAW International, and the entire labor movement to be part of that fight. Alongside our coworkers in Western States Organizing for Power, Union MADE candidates will fight for the following priorities at the UAW Constitutional Convention.
-
Public support for unions is at a 60-year high, but union density continues to decline. Reversing that trend and organizing new workers in the UAW’s core sectors — auto, agricultural implement, aerospace, and academia — requires more resources. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to vote for expanding resources available for organizing, including by raising the cap on Strike and Defense Fund withdrawals for organizing drives from $60 million to $100 million. An attack on immigrant workers is an attack on the entire working class. ICE’s campaign of terror is tearing families apart, and the Trump administration is revoking visas for thousands of our international higher ed members — all to divide workers and drive down wages for everyone. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to vote for a program to fight back through:
Political action to dismantle ICE and fix our broken immigration system;
Collective bargaining to expand protections for immigrant and undocumented workers;
And cross-border solidarity with independent auto unions in Mexico and across the globe.

Climate change is an existential threat, and the transition to renewable energy is a generational opportunity to build millions of good, union jobs. Trump’s rollback of EV subsidies and IRA investments has already cost tens of thousands of UAW memebrs their job, and we can’t let private companies decide what’s possible based on their bottom line. Instead, the state must invest in the zero-emission technologies we need. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to vote for pro-worker, green industrial policies as a priority for the UAW, including public investment in decarbonization industries tied to strong labor standards, in-state production, and community benefits. Federal funding for science is under attack. The Trump administration has attempted to cut two-thirds of the publicly funded research budget, threatening lifesaving research on cancer, Alzheimer's, climate, and more, and putting tens of thousands of UAW researchers' careers in jeopardy. Public science benefits all working people: every $1 invested returns $2.46, and 354 of 356 FDA-approved drugs from 2010-2019 were backed by NIH-funded research. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to advancing a worker-led vision for American science, including by defending and expanding public research funding and building good union jobs with stable career paths in higher ed, national labs, biotech, and EV/battery R&D. Right now, corporate politicians answer to billionaires, not workers. Our biggest fights, from passing the PRO Act to repealing Taft-Hartley, demand bold allies from our own ranks. UAW-endorsed working-class candidates like Zohran Mamdani, Katie Wilson, and Dan Osborn are winning races and outperforming expectations. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to building a Members-in-Office Program that develops UAW member-leaders into candidates for office, backed by the training, coalitions, and funding vehicles needed to win. In 2021, UAW members won the right to directly elect International Executive Board Officers, with 63.7% voting for one-member-one-vote (1M1V). That hard-won right shouldn't be taken away by convention delegates. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to amending the UAW Constitution to maintain 1M1V and ensure that any change to the direct election method can only be made by a secret ballot referendum vote of the entire UAW membership. UAW Locals are increasingly spread across multiple cities and states, but outdated rules force members to pay out of pocket and wait weeks for reimbursement. WSO4P/MADE candidates commit to vote for modernizing UAW's financial processes, including by allowing electronic signatures and letting Locals responsibly use credit cards for union expenses, with proper safeguards in place.
